Haeckel, 1887, cited Ehrenberg's (1844) genus name but redefined it with a new type, Lithobotrys geminata Campbell, 1951 considered Haeckel's treatment effectively a new generic name and junior homonym of Lithobotrys Ehrenberg's, 1844, and created the replacement name Glycobotrys which is currently an accepted name.
