Taxonomic remark Suppressed for priority but not for homonymy, refer ICZN Opinion 1425. Originally described as annelid boring in (extant) mollusc shells; later (?incorrectly) assigned to Mollusca (Vemetidae) by Gray, 1840. WoRMS (2020 version) allocates this generic name to Annelida (Serpulidae), which is followed here. After being considered a nomen dubium, the name was suppressed by ICZN for priority but not homonymy (listed as Gastopoda) on the basis of the material being unidentifiable. Supposed fossil material listed in Sepkoski's compilation is now believed to be misidentified, refer Keen & Hadfield, 1985. [details]
