Taxonomic remark Introduced to encompass some species previously assigned to Goniodoma, the latter now treated as a synonym of Scrippsiella; not a synonym of Goniodoma as stated in DINOFLAJ3, since the type material is different although sharing the same name (Peridinium acuminatum Ehrenberg and P. acuminatum F. Stein). In zoology, the name is a junior homonym of Triadinium Fiorentini, 1890 (Ciliophora) and for that reason was replaced by the name Pyrrhotriadinium T. Nakada, 2010 which is used by some authors e.g. Kretschmann et al., 2015, but Triadinium Dodge is considered an accepted name in botany in AlgaeBase (2021 version) and elsewhere. [details]
