Listed as Chlorophyceae incertae sedis in WoRMS (2017); assignment to Sphaeropleaceae follows Senousy et al., 2004, who studied it under the name Botryococcus (=Botryosphaera/Botryosphaerella) sudeticus, its closest investigated relative being Characiopodium hindakii which is in that family. [details]
