Whitehead et al. 1966 treat as a forgotten name and place in synonymy of Escualosa Whitley 1940. Correctly dates to 1870, Pl. 264 in part 22, with corresponding legend page published in 1875; in corresponding text page 101 published in 1872 Bleeker used the name Clupeoides. Leptogaster is also objectively invalid, being preoccupied in insects according to Whitley 1970. (Eschmeyer). [details]
