Taxonomic remark Author states "if is ruled invalid, I propose Malanius to replace it''.) (err. pro Melania Perry 1811 (Nomen. Zool.). Based on an abnormal specimen of Latimeria. In describing the genus Smith proposed an alternate name Malanius (p. 99) which technically was a name in synonymy and never made available. (Eschmeyer). [details]
