Taxonomic remark Originally interpreted as the cone of a fossil conifer; later as an angiosperm fruit (same as Crowella globosa (Bowerb.) E. Reid & M. Chandler, 1933). Doweld, 2013 proposed to conserve the genus name Crowella over both Frenelites and Actinotrobus (all considered to be synonyms) but this proposal was rejected by the Nomenclature Committee on Fossils, however a separate proposal to reject Frenelites was recommended for acceptance by the Committee (Herendeen, 2015). [details]
