Taxonomic remark From Oskars et al., 2019: Nipponatys was first erected by Kuroda and Habe (1952) for Atys (Alicula) volvulina A.Adams, 1862, yet the authors did not include any descriptive characters or reference to a study that attempted to differentiate it; thus, the name is regarded as a nomen nudum following ICZN (1999: Article 13). However, in the same year, but in a later work, Habe (1952) included a brief description of Nipponatys volvulinus based on a specimen from Obama Bay, Fukui Prefecture, Honshu, Japan (Habe 1952: 141, pl. 20, fig. 5). ... Habe’s concept of Nipponatys volvulinus seems to result from a misidentification, and his description of the shell and anatomy (radula and gizzard plates) conforms to Haminoeidae, possibly with the genus Aliculastrum. [details]
