Taxonomic remark If regarded as available, then Platysoma Scudder 1882 is an unjustified emendation (and preoccupied); predates Kuhlia Gill 1861 but can be regarded as a nomen oblitum. An alternate view is that the type was not definitely referred and the description inadequate. The genus, if available, has not been used as a valid genus since its proposal, and it can be rejected on that basis. (refer Eschmeyer). [details]
