Taxonomic remark Junior homonym of Acanthocarpus J.G.C. Lehmann, 1848 (Asparagaceae). From Seward, 1917: Goeppert founded a new genus, Acanthocarpus, on a Permian seed described as A. xanthioides, because of the occurrence of spinous processes attached to an obcordate kernel: these apparent spines are in all probability the remains of a very imperfectly preserved sarcotesta.
