Taxonomic remark (n.n. pro Alces Gray 1821 (Nomen. Zool.), but (per original work) for Alces Smith (as Alces Hamilton Smith), the latter then treated as a subgenus of Cervus, however this name appears to be pre-dated by Gray's usage. [details]
