Taxonomic remark This genus was based on 3 species, all of which are representative of Batrachospermum Roth 1797. (Index Nominum Genericorum), however the genus is currently accepted according to Schneider & Wynne, 2019. From Schneider & Wynne: According to Wynne (2019), Torularia is a valid, legitimate name to be lectotypified by Torularia dillenii (Bory) Bonnemaison. Therefore, this generic name has priority over Atrophycus Necchi et Rossignolo (in Rossignolo et al. 2017). Earlier, Rossignolo et al. (2017) proposed Arthrophycus for their genus Setacea Necchi et Rossignolo nom. inval. (Rossignolo and Necchi 2016). [details]
