Subfamily From McKenna & Bell, 1997: Palmer (1904) stated that Pontistes is antedated by Palaeopontoporia, based upon the same type species. Palmer's comment seems to have been long-forgotten. Palaeopontoporia, if truly a senior synonym, probably should be officially suppressed. [details]
