Taxonomic remark From Philippe & Bamford, 2008: this generic name was validly published independently several time[s] (Andreánszky, 1952; Khudaiberdyev, 1962), but the first publication was in 1884 by Saporta (see Süß, 2003, for an outstanding review, unfortunately without type designation). As there is no material described in the protologue, we propose here Ginkgoxylon gruetii Pons et Vozenin-Serra (Cour. Forsch.-Inst. Senckenberg 147:204, pl. 2 Figs. 1–5, pl. 3 Figs. 1–12; 1992) as a neotype. [details]
