Taxonomic remark Erected as subclass Eophytidae Edwards, Morris, Axe, Duckett, Pressel & Kenrick, 2021, within class Embryopsida Engler ex Pirani & Prado (2012), "to be consistent with ranking in the classification of Chase & Reveal (2009)", in which other equivalent groups (bryophytes, liverworts, hornworts) are all treated as subclasses within a single class, Equisetopsida [=Embrypsoda], for all land plants. In IRMNG at the present time, land plants are treated as a set of separate phyla (Anthocerotophyta, Bryophyta, etc.), so eophytes are also treated at that level, albeit without a formal name at this time.
