Taxonomic remark Brachidinium was moved to Gymnodiniales by Henrichs et al., 2011, however in the molecular based tree presented by Chacón & Gottschling, 2020, the family Brachidiniaceae is placed near Peridiniales and other armoured groups, not the unarmoured Gymnodiniales, thus the Brachidiniales is provisionally accepted as higher taxonomy in IRMNG at this time. From Gómez, 2003: The family Brachidiniaceae and the order Brachidiniales are based on Brachidinium F.J.R. Taylor. In the original publication of Taylor (1963) this genus was spelt Brachydinium, but in 1967 Taylor introduced the orthographically corrected spelling Brachidinium [see also Articles 60 and 61 of the current version of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN; Greuter et al. 2000) dealing with the correction of orthographical errors]. Contrary to Sournia’s (1973) conclusion, Taylor’s (1967) correction of his own orthographical error is in no way contrary to these articles and should be followed. [details]
