Taxonomic remark Lyrosaurus australis (the type and only species of the genus) is interpreted as a juvenile form of Mahavisaurus dentatus; the latter is considered the senior name by Maganuco et al., acting as first revisers, although the names were published concurrently. (Mahavisaurus is cited as having page priority, but this has no significance in nomenclature). Nomenclator Zoologicus has 2 records for this name: one ascribed to Lehman 1966, Annls Paleont.(Vert.) 52: 129, and the second to "Lehrman 1966", same work, p. 125, apparently in error (original work and pagination not seen, but Maganuco et al. say the name of the type species, L. australis is first used on page 125. [details]
