Taxonomic remark Substitute name for Spiromonas Skuja 1939, non Perty 1852. (Index Nominum Genericorum). see Cryptaulaxoides Novarino 1996 (Nomen. Zool.). Genus name non-preoccupied in botany, preoccupied in zoology (where the taxon is presently placed) and therefore proposed to be replaced with Cryptaulaxoides Novarino, however latter name is itself preoccupied in Hymenoptera, not replaced as at 2018. IRMNG presently treats this genus as a bodonid following Cavalier-Smith, 2016, although AlgaeBase (2021 version) places it in the Cryptophyceae, order Cryptomonadales (where some of its species possibly belong). [details]
