Taxonomic remark Unavailable name (suppressed for both priority and homonymy, refer ICZN Index). Rafinesque published the name Amblema twice, first in 1819 with the type species A. ovalis, with no description and therefore a nomen dubium, and again in 1820 with the type species subsequently designated as A. costata. The name Amblema Rafinesque, 1819 has been suppressed by the ICZN (Opinion 840) in order that Amblema Rafinesque, 1820 can stand as a valid name, instead of being replaced by Crenodonta Schlüter, 1838, its suggested replacement name.
