Taxonomic remark emend. pro Cernua Schaeffer 1761 (Nomen. Zool.). Kottelat & Freyhof 2009 suggest that Acerina Güldenstädt 1775 is an unavailable generic name. Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004 treat Acerina as not a generic name (and date it to 1774). In any event and if needed, steps should be taken to suppress Acerina in favor of the well known genus Gymnocephalus. (Eschmeyer). [details]
Type species as cited Acerina babir Güldenstädt 1775 (= Perca cernua Linnaeus 1758) [details]
