Descriptive info Carboniferous. (Index Nominum Genericorum) [details]
Taxonomic remark A homotypic synonym of Megalaevigati A.M. Ischenko & E.V. Semenova 1960 according to Index Nominum Genericorum. Doweld, 2014 states that this name is in current use despite being an "illegitimate later synonym" of the "forgotten and illegitimate" Megalaevigati, as well as of Triletes. However, that author's proposal to conserve Aphanozonatisporites against Chroococcites, Dictyophis, Rhizostaemis and Triletes was voted against by the Nomenclature Committee for Fossils (Herendeen, 2016) on the grounds that "Additional taxonomic and nomenclatural work is needed to develop a comprehensive solution to the multiple problems uncovered".
