Taxonomic remark Listed as Charophyceae incertae sedis in AlgaeBase, apparently in error. From Hoffmann, 1977: There is ... the curious situation where the same specimens can have different names, depending on what method is applied. Examples are Conophyton Maslov, Lerrnontovaephycus Vologdin, Granifer Vologdin, and Tschichatschevia Vologdin. This is not a matter of omission or of ignorance of the other classification, but one of intent, whereby fundamentally different concepts are applied to stromatolite systematics, both classifications being characterised by Linnéan-like designations. In such a confusing situation it is conceivable that a particular form could be listed twice or more under different names in fossil lists compiled by uninitiated individuals. [details]
Taxonomic remark A homotypic synonym of Conophyton V.P. Maslov 1937 according to Index Nominum Genericorum. [details]
