Taxonomic remark Originally described (in zoology) as jaw fragments from a duck-billed dinosaur (a hadrosaur), later shown by Hovelacque, 1890 to be fossil angiosperm wood and re-named Aachenoxylon, refer Edwards, 1931; Aachenoxylon probably has priority in botany since Aachenosaurus would not be validly published under the botanical Code (?). According to Edwards, another supposed part of "Aachenosaurus" was ascribed by Hovelacque to the pre-existing fossil wood genus Nicolia. (The Index Nominum Genericorum record for Aachenosaurus is confused/incorrect on this point). [details]
