Taxonomic remark The original type species of Tetraedron, T. regulare Kützing, appears to be a xanthophyte and was transferred by Fott (1967) into Tetraedriella, making Kützing's Tetraedron a nomenclatural synonym of that genus. However the name Tetraedron has remained in use for a large number of coccoid green algae. Kováčik & Komárek, 1976 proposed to conserve Tetraedron as a green algal genus with a new type species, T. caudatum (Corda) Hansg. [details]
Taxonomic remark Original / permitted alternative spelling = Tetraëdron. [details]
